Lama denied that his presence and activities in the country could adversely affect the Sino-India relationship, adding, “India and China are large countries and they should maintain a good relationship.” He, however, stressed China should maintain transparency to ensure a better relationship between New Delhi and Beijing. Lama sounded optimistic on China giving autonomy to Tibet given its new economic status. Dalai Lama, who fled to India after the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, lives in exile in the northern Indian hill town of Dharmasala (Himachal Pradesh).
