60% drop in Pune mall footfalls

Hotels and retail stores in Pune have seen their sales drop 50 per cent. “We have seen a 60 per cent drop in the number of visitors and around 50 per cent in our total sales. We have sales of around Rs 3 lakh per day. In our hotel, losses are expected to amount to Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh in the coming six days.” A restaurant owner who has witnessed a drop of 50 per cent in his sales figures said, “We have a sale of around Rs 25,000 on an average in a week. But due to the flu, people are reluctant to eat out. We are seeing a drop in our revenues almost by Rs 10,000 daily.” Ishanya Mall, which is spread over 550,000 square feet, is also wearing a deserted look as the number of visitors has gone down significantly. However, Vivek Kelkar, vice president, strategic communication, refused to comment and part with exact figures. Similar is the situation at other big malls such as Kakade Centre Port, Magnum Malls and Central malls.
